IfoAR2WS is a simple utility to change the aspect ratio to 16:9 in DVD IFO
IfoAR2WS sets the aspect ratio to 16:9 in the video
attributes of the *.IFO files of a DVD.
In the screenshot above there are 2 Video TitleSets (VTSs) in the VIDEO_TS
folder. The Video TitleSet IFO files (VTS_01_0.IFO and VTS_02_0.IFO) have their
aspect ratio patched from 4:3 to 16:9. The Video Manager IFO file
(VIDEO_TS.IFO) contains information about both VTSs and it too is patched from
4:3 to 16:9. The BUP (backup) files are also patched as the IFO files.
Note: The aspect ratio for menus is untouched. Only the aspect
ratio relating to the Titles are patched.
Note: The aspect ratio for VOBs is untouched. Only the IFO
files are patched.
IfoAR2WS is useful in the following scenarios:
You have widescreen (16:9) material and you author a DVD. Sometimes you may
forget to instruct your authoring software to make a 16:9 DVD and so it will
produce IFO files with 4:3 flags. Or some DVD authoring applications only
produce 4:3 IFOs.... In both cases IfoAR2WS can correct the problem.
Many standalone DVD recorders don't interpret the WideScreen Switching
(WSS) signal from sources over a SCART lead. Thus, even though the source may
be widescreen (16:9) it will only produce IFO files with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
This is the problem I have with SKY+... SKY+ will not instruct my DVD recorder
to record in widescreen! So my solution is:
